Introduction to Muscat - Sohar
Sohar is a popular tourist destination in the north of Oman, around 62 miles north of the capital, Muscat. This port city appeals to tourists due to its safe and clean beaches as well as its numerous archaeological attractions. Some of the best Sohar hotels are located by the beach, one of which houses the only bar in the city serving alcohol. Jogging is a popular waterfront activity, as is enjoying the park close to the beach. Besides the beach, Sohar Castle is the other main attraction in the city. Building began on the castle in the 13th century, but nowadays it is home to an informative museum. Shoppers will be fascinated by the city's walled souk, where a range of interesting goods can be haggled for. The souk is surrounded by six towers, which give it an imposing presence in the bay.
