Introduction to Muscat - Airport
Formerly called As Seeb International Airport, Muscat Airport is the main transport facility in of Oman, a sultanate located at the eastern part of the Arabian Peninsula. The airport serves as the hub for Oman's flag carrier, Oman Air. Hotels at Muscat Airport are just 15kms from the main modern residential areas of the capital city. The historic attractions of the old city are twice as far away. The airport is close to the Gulf of Oman and several big highways make it easy to travel by road from here. A long series of beaches lies just minutes to the north. These are wide, placid, sandy shores that offer miles of walks or secluded spots for relaxing in the sun. Immediately to the north of the airport are the wide but rather tired remains of the old Portuguese fortification, Sibo Fort. The area at the roundabout, where Al Sultan Qaboos Street meets Nizwe Road at the southwest corner of the airport, features several beautiful modern gardens and fountain complexes.
