Introduction to Vinstra, Norway
The village of Vinstra lies in a scenic valley formed by the river of the same name, in the county of Oppland, in central southwest Norway. The village has strong links with the author Henrik Ibsen, who used the village's Peder Olsen Haga as the model for his main character in the poem Peer Gynt. The local farm, Haga, is the setting for an annual Peer Gynt festival. Hotels in Vinstra are ideally located for tourists keen to follow the Peer Gynt Way, which tours from here to Lillehammer, via Gala. Sodorp, five minutes' drive to the south, contains a monument to Peer Gynt. The beautiful, expansive scenery of the Gudbrandsdal Valley can easily be enjoyed on road tours thanks to National Route 256 and Euroroute E6. Liadalane Nature Reserve is just 10 minutes' drive away to the west of the village. Strong transport links are bolstered by the railway station, which is easily found by the river.
