The tiny Norwegian community of Tisleidalen occupies a picturesque location in the flat formed by the emptying of a local river into olsjoen Lake, in the southern county of Oppland. The town sits in an alpine valley that is popular year-round with tourists. In addition to hotels in Tisleidalen, family camping grounds can be found just a few miles along Highway 51. The E16 Euroroute, which is less than 15 minutes' drive to the north, at the town of Leira, provides excellent access to a long strip of fabulous beauty areas. These include the Stondafjorden and a series of smaller fjords, including Floafjorden and Dokkafjorden. In the winter time, this area becomes a true winter wonderland, with many skiers descending on the area's sublime ski trails, some of which extend for vast distances through the mountains. The town's quaint wooden church is illustrative of Norwegian church design. Fans of old churches will want to visit Aurdal, about 20 minutes to the northeast. The church here dates from 1735 but contains elements from the previous stave church.
