Introduction to Skei, Norway

The administrative centre of Jolster, a municipality in Norway's Sogn og Fjordane county, is a picturesque village called Skei on the shores of Lake Jolstervatnet, a sight which can easily be seen from most Skei hotels. Lakeside art galleries here include Astruptunet, the former lakeside home of artist Nikolai Astrup, and Eikaasgalleriet, where Ludvig Eikaas is the featured artist. Old houses and farming tools form most of the exhibits at Jolstramuseet museum. Daily or weekly licenses to fish Jolstervatnet lake trout can be purchased at the local tourist information centre. Walks along Haugabreen glacier and rafting excursions along the Jolstra River may also be easily arranged. Visitors may ski down the Jolster Ski Centre's slopes in winter or golf the nine holes of Sunnfjord Golf Club between May and October. Traditional Christmas decorations and woven carpets are just some of the souvenirs for sale at Audhild Viken Vevstove throughout the year.
