Introduction to Skedsmo, Norway
One of the municipalities within Akershus County in southern Norway is Skedsmo. Numerous small towns and villages can be found within this region, with Lillestrom containing the largest population. A high-speed train runs from Oslo and its airport right to Lillestrom, giving visitors easy access to this area. Lillestrom is also a visitor's best bet for a good selection of restaurants and shops. Lillestrom Art Centre and Akershus County Museum are the two cultural venues where visitors can see the art and heritage of the unique Romerike region of Norway. In the north of Skedsmo municipality is Norway's largest lake, Mjosa. The country's longest river, the Glomma, also runs through the area, providing lots of outdoor recreation in the summer. The Nature Reservation of Northern Oyeren contains a huge lake and a unique delta area teeming with birds and wildlife. Boat tours are a popular way to explore this impressive natural area. Most of the hotels in Skedsmo are located in and around Lillestrom, though there are lodges at major tourist sites like Make Mjosa.
