The small village of Nordfjordeid, Norway serves as the administrative capital of a slightly larger municipality called Eid in the southwest Sogn og Fjordane. This village is a six-hour drive from Bergen and a nine-hour drive from Norway's capital of Oslo, close to a breathtakingly beautiful fjord called the Eidsfjord. Nordfjordeid hotels are also located just above Hornindalsvatnet Lake and not far from the even larger Geirangerfjord. Several tourists come especially to see the famous Briksdalen glacier, and the best known nearby ski resort is called Harpefossen. Many visitors are surprised to discover Nordfjordeid is also a thriving centre of culture and education with its own professional opera company. The Malakoff Rockfestival attracts numerous well-known musicians each year. The local folk high school boasts Norway's only professional circus training in addition to courses about the unique breed of Fjord horses. The official Norwegian centre for Fjord horses is located in neighbouring Eid.
