Introduction to Maloy, Norway
Few Norwegian communities lie further west than Maloy, which is situated on an island called Vagsoy. All Maloy hotels are located on the coast, and a bridge called Maloybrua connects the town and the larger municipality, also named Vagsoy, to the mainland Sogn og Fjordane county village of Degnepoll. Most of the town's streets are numbered rather than named, particularly the hillside roads, and a large WWII monument stands in the town square. The entire population of Maloy was eradicated during WWII to make the town a German coastal fortress, and a separate monument is dedicated to the only Norwegian Operation Archery casualty, Martin Linge. Cruise ships travel to this important fishing port 10 months of the year, and the Ulvesund Fyr lighthouse stands guard over the popular Refviksanden Beach. The westernmost piece of land in all of Norway, Vestkapp, can easily be reached from the town centre. Picturesque countryside and well-preserved ruins dominate the landscape of another nearby island, Selje.other spellings: marloy otel, maloi hotell, maloy hote, maloyhotels, malloy hotle, maloy hotes
