The small city of Lillestrom is situated in southeast Norway, not far from the border with Sweden. Lillestrom hotels along with all other local attractions are located about halfway between central Oslo and the airport which serves Norway's national capital, in Gardermoen. Both locations are just a 10-minute public transportation journey away from Lillestrom, also spelled Lillestroem, in opposite directions. The swamp land on which this city was built was once considered virtually inhabitable, but today it contains an outdoor swimming pool complex, a shopping centre, a new cinema, a community cultural house and countless restaurants. The other main attractions here are the bustling Norway trade fairs and several sporting venues. One local stadium once hosted 1952 Winter Olympic ice hockey games, but the even larger Arasen stadium is where the local Norwegian Premier League football team plays. Local rugby league and track and field clubs also thrive here. The nearby community of Kjeller has contained a small military airport since 1912.
