Introduction to Leikanger, Norway
The district containing the Norwegian municipality of Leikanger is traditionally known as Sogn and is situated 260kms from Bergen. The village, also known as Leikanger, serves not only as the administrative centre of its namesake municipality, but of the entire Sogn og Fjordane County where it is located next to Hermannsverk in southwest Norway. Together, these two communities are unofficially known as Systrond, and all Leikanger hotels are situated on the Sognefjord's shores. This breathtakingly beautiful fjord is bigger and deeper than any other in Norway. Just east of the village lie the second, third and fourth-longest bridge spans on Earth, collectively known as the Sognefjord Spans. The village church has stood here since 1166, but many of the 10 rare tree species growing in its vicar's garden date much further back in time. The area has a fairly mild average climate of slightly over 13°C for its comparatively northern location, and peaches, walnuts and apricots all easily grow here.other spellings: leikanger otel, leikanger hotell, likanger hote, leigangerhotels, leikanjer hotle
