Introduction to Gol, Norway
The region where the municipality of Gol can be found in southeast Norway is traditionally known as Hallingdal. Many Gol hotels have greeted guests for over a century and a half, and much accommodation here is located on the scenic Golsfjellet Mountain. Visitors may participate in chores and canoe on lakes while staying on summer farms. A replica of Gol's original 1216 stave church stands alongside hiking trails and a children's play area at the medieval park of Gordarrike. More recent history of the town is displayed at the Gol Bygdetun open-air museum where the oldest of its many farm buildings dates from the 17th century. Visitors may blow their own glass art at the renowned HallingGlass factory or admire the leather clothes and other products manufactured at Skinnfellmaker'n leather factory. A crater whose maximum length is five kilometres is the main attraction at Gardnos Meteorite Park, the only reminder from a meteorite which struck the area about 650 million years ago.
