Introduction to Geilo - City Centre
The Norwegian town and resort area of Geilo is not only one of Scandinavia's favourite ski areas; due to its location in the pristine Hallingdal valley, it has become a popular destination for summertime activities as well. The small town centre is situated directly adjacent to the ski area. Skiers and snowboarders frequently fill up Geilo City Centre hotels throughout the winter; however, the summer and autumn see visitors of all types enjoying hiking, fishing, rafting, mountain biking, horseback riding and more. The biggest attraction here is the ski resort, which often remains open until early May due to the area's elevation and latitude. There are more than 20 lifts in total. Geilo is also a village set amid two national parks: Hardangervidda National Park and Hallingskarvet National Park. The former is the largest in the country, with both offering outstanding natural beauty and wildlife among glaciers, fjords and lush pine forests, making them perfect for camping, canoeing and glacier trekking, among numerous other activities.
