Introduction to Forde, Norway
The town of Forde in southwest Norway boasts the biggest hospital in Sogn og Fjordane, the county where this community is situated in a district called Sunnfjord. The longest single sculpture in Norway, the 65m Salmon, stands on the Jolstra River's banks near the regional cultural centre. An amphitheatre, a sports complex and the county gallery can all be found close to this cultural centre called Fordehuset, which means 'Forde House' in English. Even more culture can be enjoyed at the outdoor Sunnfjord Museum, where guided tours of its 25 restored buildings from the mid-19th century are conducted each summer day. Just a brief walk from the town centre lies Halbrendsfossen waterfall, whose waters are especially powerful in springtime, while the 90m tall Huldefossen waterfall is just 10kms away. A lively folk music festival happens here each summer. Guests at Forde hotels are also within close proximity to an historic village named Bruland.
