Introduction to Etne, Norway

The town of Etne sits in the southwest of Norway, close to the North Sea in the county of Hordaland. The town gets its name from the Etnafjord, on which it is located. The attractions around the town are largely of a natural origin. There is much here for fans of the outdoors as well as dramatic scenery. The road along the northern shore of the fjord offers some incredible views. Those keen to enjoy a good hike can soak in the views across a wide area from atop the 635m-high Borkjenesnuten Mountain which overlooks both the fjord and the large sound to the west. More excellent vantage points can be enjoyed by following Euroroute E134 to the south. The seas, lakes and rivers of the area provide plenty of chances to enjoy boating, fishing or just gentle walks. In addition to hotels in Etne, visitors can enjoy accommodation in cabins at the park in Osnes, overlooking the fjord. Every year, the animal shows, handicraft demonstrations, concerts and more attract some 40,000 people to the August market days.
