Introduction to Bergen, Norway
A community of immense charm and great beauty, the Norwegian city of Bergen enjoys UNESCO World Heritage status and is a popular destination thanks both to its attractions and proximity to the stunning fjords of the region. There are two fabulous ways to enjoy superb views of the city, both easily reached from Bergen hotels. Mount FlØyen, about 1.5kms to the east, offers a panoramic view across the city and bay, with its summit accessible via the FlØibanen funicular. A marine tour of the area allows visitors to enjoy the epic coastline as well as a wonderful perspective of the city. Fans of history should visit the Hanseatic Museum, which is located just a few minutes to the north of the centre. Both architecture and history buffs are likely to love the Damsgard Manor, a fabulous Rococo timber house from the late 18th century that sits three kilometres to the west of the center. The 13th century Hakonshallen, part of Bergenhus fortress, and the adjacent 16th century Rosenkrantz Tower are two more important historic sites. Visit our Bergen Travel Guide
