Introduction to Alesund, Norway
Alesund is a fishing port in the Sunnmore region of western Norway. Alesund is packed with enchanting architecture and surrounded by wonderful views. Alesund is spread over seven islands. The city centre, containing most of the Alesund hotels options, is on two of the islands, Aspoya and Norvoy. The two islands are linked by bridge. The old timber framed houses in the city centre burnt down in 1904 and the town was rebuilt in a classic Art Nouveau style. Some of the hotels in Alesund are housed in buildings with turrets near the picturesque inner harbour. The city centre has good nightlife, cafes and restaurants all within walking range of hotels in Alesund. The restaurants serve gourmet cuisine, both Norwegian and international. Alesund hotels provide a good base for sightseeing. Alesund’s museum has exhibits depicting the city’s history. The attractive town park is at the base of Mount Aksla.
