Northern Ireland is loaded with cosmopolitan cities and friendly people and is very easy to travel around. In addition it has a fantastic coastline and some of the world’s most striking natural formations. Belfast is both the capital and main city of Northern Ireland, boasting a huge amount of history, attractions and entertainment options.
Situated in the east between Lough Neagh (Europe’s biggest lake) and the Irish Sea, Belfast has a bustling city centre and striking landmarks, such as the Grand Opera House, and is voted as one of the UK’s best cities. Donegal Square features much Victorian architecture while the infamous Shankill (Protestant) and Falls (Catholic) roads are in the west of the town.
Steeped in folklore, this is where the monumental Giant’s Causeway is located; a curious rock formation consisting of thousands of upright basalt shafts. To the southwest, below Derry, is the Fermanagh Lakeland region which is a must for the outdoors type. Also for those with a love of nature, the Mountains of Mourne and many quaint fishing villages can be found in the southeast.
With all this outstanding countryside comes the chance to enjoy activities such as walking, cycling, and fishing. There are some great forest and coastal walking trails as well as some of the world’s finest golf courses.
