Belfast Travel Guide - Things To Do

Football: Belfast was the hometown of legendary footballer George Best, who died in November 2005. More than 100,000 people lined the route from his home to Roselawn cemetery, and the City Airport has been renamed after him. The Northern Ireland national football team play their home games in Windsor Park.
The Irish League is the second oldest national football league in the world and there are several teams that have their grounds in the area. The 2005-2006 Irish League football champions, Linfield, also play their home matches at Windsor Park.
Belfast Zoo: is especially good for the kids following a modernisation programme in the 1990s. The zoo has a good variety of animals including prairie dogs that roam through a series of tunnels in the park. The children's farm is particularly good with its underwater views of the resident penguins and sea lions.
Fishing: Northern Ireland is one of the best destinations in Europe for all types of fishing. The choice of idyllic scenery and unspoilt locations makes it ideal for the causal or serious angler. The coastal waters of Londonderry, Antrim and Down provide a variety of shore, rock and boat fishing opportunities. Meanwhile the country's many rivers, lakes and canals are ideal for coarse fishing. There is a wide choice of venues for game fishing with plenty of wild salmon and sea trout.
