Situated at the mouth of the river Lagan in the province of Ulster, Belfast is the largest city in Northern Ireland as well as its capital. It is an interesting city that has a rich and varied history dating back to the Middle Ages. The last 30 years have been marked by the problems between Catholics and Protestants, but the Good Friday Agreement in 1998 has restored peace to the city and most violence has disappeared.
