January Festivals

Belfast International Cross-Country: this prominent cross-country race is considered to be one of the top races in the world and attracts a mixture of top runners as well as many amateurs. The event takes place in the Stormont Estate and supportive crowds line the route.
April Festivals

Belfast Film Festival: has earned a reputation for offering political and cultural cinema activities, as well as cult movies and Irish films. The festival organises seminars, industry workshops, panel discussions and music events.
May Festivals

Lord Mayor’s Carnival: is a day of celebrations to mark the end of the Lord Mayor’s term of office. The annual event takes place in May, with the highlight being a carnival parade of colourful floats through the streets of Belfast.
Festival of Fools: takes place in the city centre in May, and features street theatre artists and comedians performing shows and tricks. More than 20 companies perform more than 100 shows over the course of the five-day festival.
Balmoral Show: is the largest agricultural show in the country, featuring more than 300 trade stands, sheep-shearing demonstrations, international show jumping competitions and Kids’ Zone complete with a baby animal farm. The three day show takes place in May at the Balmoral Showgrounds.
Belfast Children’s Festival: is a unique festival known for its innovative schedule of events. Artists from several countries take part in the programme that is aimed at children up to 12 years of age. Events take place both in and out of school time at various locations around the city.
September/October Festivals

Open House Festival: musicians gather in Belfast’s Cathedral Quarter for traditional Irish concerts as well as American roots such as Cajun, bluegrass, hill country blues and old time. In addition, there are films, talks and plenty of free sessions for people to join in with.
November Festivals

Belfast Festival: one of the largest festivals in the country, attracting over 50,000 visitors each year and a host of top artists from the entertainment world. The two-week-long festival has been running since the 1970s and continues to grow every year. The diverse programme features comedy, visual arts, classical music, theatre, dance and popular music.
