Introduction to Templepatrick, Northern Ireland
Less than 10 miles north of Belfast is the quiet village of Templepatrick. This ancient settlement is known for its impressive historic buildings and important old churches, such as St Patrick's Church in the centre of town. Castle Upton dominates the landscape of Templepatrick. Its main gate, right in the heart of the village, leads through a stone wall to the main house with its thick tower and interesting family mausoleum. This National Trust property is open to the public and is well worth a visit. Just down the road is another National Trust property, Patterson's Spade Mill, which is home to an interesting industrial museum. There are several hotels in Templepatrick that serve air travellers coming and going from nearby Belfast International Airport. The village itself offers only a handful of options for dining, drinking and shopping.
