Introduction to Omagh, Northern Ireland
Omagh is often associated with the violence of the devastating 1998 IRA bombings that left 29 dead. But the town itself dates back to 1610 and has a nice range of historic buildings in the downtown area, and the scenic River Strule runs through it. There are numerous public parks in the city, the best of which is Grange Park near the city centre. Omagh Leisure Complex lies along the river nearby Grange Park, offering people 26 acres of landscaped grounds, a lake, cycle paths and recreational facilities. Ten miles north of town is Gortin Glens Forest Park, a lovely wooded area with lakes, waterfalls, walking trails and a deer park. Omagh's town centre is slowly being revitalised with projects like Strule Arts Centre. High Street is the place to go for shopping, dining and a pub or two, while modern shopping complexes such as the Main Street Mall are close by. Hotels in Omagh come in many price categories and levels of comfort. Most are practical mid-range hotels, though a few upscale historic inns can be found in the older sections of town.other spellings: omaghhotels, omahg hotell, omegh otel, omag hote, omagh hotles
