Introduction to Newry, Northern Ireland
One of Northern Ireland's oldest towns is Newry, established in 1144 when a Cistercian monastery was built on the site. The River Clanrye runs through the middle of town forming the border between County Armagh and County Down. Newry is one of the main towns around the Gap of the North, which serves as a traditional gateway to the Republic of Ireland. Its central location between Dublin and Belfast has made it an important centre of trade for centuries. Landmarks like the striking cathedral, the Town Hall and Drumalane Mill add real aesthetic style to the scenery. The Quays are another exciting part of town, where the canal links the river and the massive Lough Neagh lake. Marcus Square is a nice place to begin sightseeing at the heart of this town, and the Newry hotels in this district are all excellent choices. A number of art galleries, a cultural museum and a performance arts centre add a discernable creative edge to the scene and provide plenty of entertainment for visitors. other spellings: newryhotels, otel in newri, nawry hotell, niwry hote, newry hotles
