Walking: the visitors centre in Wellington provides information on walks and treks in the city and the surrounding areas. Within Wellington, you will find more than 50 mapped walks that will take you past many places of interest.
Trekking: the Northern, Southern and Eastern Walkways are popular with trekkers and routes can be found in local maps and guides. The Queen Charlotte Track is in Picton and visitors may choose to complete the entire trek, about three to five days, or complete a day trek of about four hours before returning to Wellington. The Red Rocks Coastal Walk is another popular walk that is enjoyed by thousands each year. Picton can be reached via ferry.
Course: all sorts of courses are offered in Wellington and its surrounding areas. As New Zealand offers innumerable outdoor activities most of the course are centred on these leisure options and include kayaking, climbing and inline skating.
Golf: golfers can choose from about eight courses to enjoy a game. The courses offer different degrees of challenge but they all offer stunning vistas.
Rock climbing: is for those who want to experience adrenalin charged activity. There are at least two companies that offer basic rock climbing skills, training and actual climbs.
Swimming: can be enjoyed at many hotels that have pools and also at the beaches. Outdoor swimming can be enjoyed on the east side of Miramar Peninsula, Scorching Bay and Lyall Bay.
