Dunedin's rich heritage has provided the city with some notable architecture including the block and stone buildings such as the Railway Station, the Town Hall and the Municipal Chambers. There are also some fine churches within easy walking distance of each other that are well worth a visit. Being a coastal city, Dunedin has a good choice of beaches around the harbour and surrounding areas.
The Otago Peninsula is only a 15-20 minute drive from the city centre and has a spectacular amount of wildlife. Booking one of the nature tours is the best way to view the yellow-eyed penguins, cormorants, albatross and fur seals. There are many parks and gardens scattered around the city, ideal for relaxing and a peaceful stroll on a nice day.
The University of Otago: was founded in 1869 and is the oldest in New Zealand. The architecture of the University buildings is an interesting mix of old and new. The internationally acclaimed clock tower building dates back to 1879 and the impressive Centre of Innovation is worth a look.
Cadbury World: is a must see for any families visiting Dunedin. The visitors centre contains some good interactive displays and the chance to learn about the history of chocolate and Cadbury in New Zealand.
