The Sky City complex is a popular place to head for the evening, offering bars, restaurants and a casino plus a 700 seat theatre that hosts performances in rock, pop, jazz, dance, theatre and cabaret. Elsewhere you’ll find performing arts at the Aotea Centre in Aotea Square and at the prestigious town hall building also.
For live music, there’s a variety of venues on offer and a number of different genres represented. Rock, blues and jazz can be found at the popular Java Jive on Ponsonby road and the Devonport Bar and Brasserie on Victoria road. Jazz and blues can also be found at Deschlers on High street, Gables Tavern on Jervois Road and the Alto Casino and Bar at Skycity.
With gambling being entirely legal in New Zealand, a night at the casino might well be appealing especially as Auckland has such an impressive facility. The Skycity Casino is the country’s biggest and is home to some 88 gaming tables as over 1,200 slot machines. With over 12,000 visitors per day, this is one of the city’s most popular night time attractions.
