By air: situated 21kms from the centre of the city, Auckland International Airport is a busy three terminal facility that is one of the two major gateways into the country. Some 81 international destinations are served while domestic destinations number 324. The most frequented routes include those between Auckland and Australia, the UK, Canada, the USA, Japan, Singapore and Thailand.
By train: the rail service in New Zealand is operated by the Tranz Scenic rail company but differs from that of other countries in that it is intended more to serve tourists than residents seeking to commute inter or cross-city. Services, consequently, are relatively infrequent and visitors would need to plan carefully in order to make their connection a convenient one.
By bus: a reliable network of coach services connects Auckland with other major cities in the country as well as with significant tourist destinations. Services depart from and terminate at both the Intercity Coach Terminal and the Northliner Travel Centre on Quay Street. The main service provider is InterCity who can be contacted on (09) 913 6100 while Newmans also provides some services and can be contacted on: (09) 913 6200.
By road: reaching Auckland by private vehicle or hire car is a relatively simple affair and also fairly stress-free on account of largely favourable traffic conditions and a good road network.
