Spa, health and beauty: take the time and opportunity to pamper yourself at one of Auckland’s many spa centres where a variety of soothing and healing treatments are available. Ayurvedic treatments, Balinese-style treatments and traditional Western spa treatments can be booked by the hour, by the day or sometimes on a residential basis depending on the establishment.
Rock climbing: fans of the rugged outdoors will love the opportunities available in Auckland to indulge in a spot of rock climbing with a variety of scenic locations on hand. Mount Eden Quarry is perhaps the most popular outdoor site, offering routes of various grades while indoor centres such as the Birkenhead Indoor Climbing Wall, Extreme Edge and Auckland University offer some of the best manmade routes available in the country.
Water sport: head for the coast where you’ll find opportunities for all the usual water/beach based activities such as swimming, snorkeling, scuba diving, jet-skiing, kayaking and surfing. Bring your own equipment if you have it or pay for the services of local companies who have plenty of experience with activities of this nature.
Golf: some 23 golf courses are located either within the city of Auckland or within reasonable driving distance, giving fans of the game ample opportunity to play a few holes or dedicate an entire day to a relaxing round. Many of the courses are private so non-members would be permitted entry by invitation only while others are municipal and open to the general public.
