Introduction to Rotorua - City Centre
The New Zealand spa town of Rotorua is a historic tourist destination which has been on tourists' itineraries for the past 200 years. The town sits on the Rotorua Caldera and as a result, it features numerous geysers and hot bubbling mud pools. The geothermal activity gives off a sulphurous odour, but is still an amazing sight and therapeutic. Rotorua City Centre hotels are within range of a fine selection of shops, pubs and eateries. Nearby attractions include the shores of Lake Rotorua, the Art and History Museum, Kuirau Park, Pohutu Hot Springs and mountain biking trails in Whakarewarewa Forest. These sites are within walking distance. The pools at Kuirau Park are one of the most popular attractions in the region. Visitors wishing to take in some sea air, swimming or surfing are 40kms from Waihi, Mt Maunganui and Papamoa beaches on the Bay of Plenty.
