Introduction to Picton - City Centre
Picton, New Zealand is best known as the main port from which visitors enter the South Island from ferries departing from Wellington, the national capital, on the North Island. This seaside community on the South Island's northeast coast is the principal gateway to the magnificent Marlborough Sounds, but the city centre also offers several things to do and Picton City Centre hotels to stay in. The heart of the city is Nelson Square, which is an easy walk from most Picton attractions. The volunteers at the Community Museum are happy to tell visitors stories from the city's proud whaling past, while the Finnish-born artist Sirpa Alalaakkola's studio is always open to the public. Ecoworld Aquarium includes the boutique Picton Cinema where local and international independent films alike are frequently screened, while the aquarium itself contains a wildlife rehabilitation centre, a colony of penguins and several local fish species. The vast Waitohi Recreation Reserve and the foreshore where ferries dock are both just a few hundred metres north of Nelson Square. other spellings: pictonhotels city, picton otel center, pictan nz hotell city, picton nz center hote
