Introduction to Napier, New Zealand
Napier is sited on New Zealand’s North Island and is an attractive port city on Hawke’s Bay, on the east coast of the island. Napier was devastated by an earthquake in 1931, and then rebuilt in the art-deco style of the time. Pania of the Reef, a mermaid's statue, is Napier’s iconic landmark which is located on Napier’s esplanade, Marine Drive. A good selection of Napier hotels is dotted around the district near the statue and a number of these Napier hotels are sea-facing and offer uninterrupted views of the ocean. Napier’s plethora of cafs and restaurants are mainly located around the same district, and are a convenient walk from the hotels in Napier. Napier contains several pleasant parks, a museum and art gallery, and an aquarium.
