Just a few minutes' drive north of the centre of Napier on New Zealand's north island is Ahuriri, an area rich in history, but boasting a contemporary edge. The district is known for its wool and fishing industries, its wine production and its Art Deco architecture. Visitors will notice plush new apartments alongside industrial warehouses, with saw-toothed rooflines, and old fishing cottages.
