Near the western edge of the Canterbury Plains, Methven is a small town that is popular for its nearby skiing and outdoor recreation resort. Mount Hutt ski field is located just outside the town, with Methven hotels providing the closest accommodation for winter tourists. Explore previously inaccessible terrain by joining one of the area's heli-ski tours which take visitors to the best peaks of the central Southern Alps by helicopter.
