Introduction to Hanmer Springs, New Zealand
Hanmer Springs, a collection of mineral pools and hot springs in the Canterbury Region, is one of the nicest spa resorts on New Zealand's South Island. The town was built around the springs, some of which are now filtered for tourists who aren't keen on the heavy sulphur smell. Near the springs is a wild complex featuring a freshwater pool, an ice skating rink and an aqua play area with a water slide and a super bowl. Many visitors partake in bush walking, mountain biking, bungy jumping, or a go-kart safari during their stay at Hanmer Springs hotels, and some take advantage of the helicopter service available for exploring the surrounding Southern Alps. There are two ski resorts in the vicinity of town, Hamner Springs Ski Area and Mount Lyford. In the summer, embark on an outing to Christchurch to explore Lake Tennyson and the Rainbow Valley on the way to Nelson Lakes National Park.
