Introduction to Haast, New Zealand
Haast is a collection of communities on the southwest coast of the South Island, made up of Haast Township, Haast Junction and Haast Beach. The trio sits on the edge of Mount Aspiring National Park, one of the several parks that make up Te Wahipounamu, a UNESCO World Heritage area covering southwest New Zealand. The land here is diverse and spectacular, with mountains, waterfalls and exotic foliage. The subtropical rainforests found on the slopes of Mount Aspiring are home to the rarest subspecies of kiwi, the haast tokoeka. There are a number of breathtaking waterfalls on the road to Haast, the biggest being the 28-metre high Thunder Creek Falls. The area also offers Heliventures, a unique tourist experience that sends visitors soaring to the best destinations for hunting, fishing, kayaking or rafting. After a stay in Haast hotels, many travellers continue south to Milford Sound. Possibly the most scenic fjord on the planet, this site is renowned as a top travel destination and has been called the eighth Wonder of the World.other spellings: haasthotels, haest otel, haase hotell, haasth hote, haste hotles, hotlein haast
