Introduction to Gore, New Zealand
In the Southland of New Zealand, the city of Gore is the perfect stopover when exploring the region. Gore is locally treasured for its trout fishing, but most tourists know it as the Country Music Capital of New Zealand, home to the New Zealand Country Music Awards for decades. In front of the Country and Western Hall of Fame, the streets are filled with the handprints of some of the biggest stars in country music. Hokonui Heritage Centre, comprised of Gore Historical Museum and Hokonui Moonshine Museum, shares a bit of New Zealand folklore as the Hokonui Hills west of town were once known for the illicit production of alcohol during the days of prohibition. Gore hotels are just an hour north of Invercargill, the southernmost city in the country, where wide, stately streets are flanked by turn-of-the-century buildings, taking visitors back to another era. From Gore, travellers can also reach the Catlins, Milford Sound and Stewart Island. The island is reached by taking a ferry out of Bluff, the closest point on the mainland to Antarctica.other spellings: gorehotels, gorh hotell, otel in gorr, kore hote, goer hotle, gore hotles
