Introduction to Auckland, New Zealand
New Zealand's largest city is also the country's most enticing destination for tourists, offering a host of fascinating cultural experiences and thrill rides. Located close to the northern tip of the North Island, Auckland features a rich mix of traditional Polynesian culture and bright, modern architecture. The Auckland Museum is the star cultural attraction, a misnomer in many ways as it deals mostly with Maori arts and crafts. The museum is located in Auckland Domain, a huge park lying on an extinct volcano which makes the ideal spot for a stroll. Thrill-seekers make a beeline for Sky Tower, an attraction which offers the brave an opportunity to throw themselves off a tower at nearly 200 metres above the ground. An attached wire makes for a smooth landing but nonetheless, this is not for the faint-hearted. A large majority of Auckland hotels are clustered around the Half Moon Bay Ferry Area, a convenient location for getting around the city.Visit our Auckland Travel Guide
