Introduction to Ile des Pins, New Caledonia

Ile des Pins is the French name for the celebrated Isle of Pines, in the South Pacific Ocean French Territory of New Caledonia. The famed lagoon here with its emerald waters and teeming schools of shimmering tropical fish is just the beginning of the island’s many atractions. Scuba diving and snorkelling opportunities abound here and many Ile des Pins hotels will happily loan their guests diving or snorkelling equipment. In fact, most hotels in Ile des Pins will operate their own scuba diving schools and it is easy, then, for novice divers to be trained in the skills they need to get out to the coral reef here and explore the deeper waters. Other visitors will be happy snorkelling close to shore or sepnding time in the comfortable areas of the luxurious Ile des Pins hotels. There are plenty of accommodation options here but most tend to be upscale, resort style places.
