Cycling: can be done anywhere in the city as it boasts many biking paths. Most residents own a bicycle and regularly cycle to destinations all around the city, which helps keep the city’s pollution levels low. The paths are well-maintained, and often have their own traffic lights, which makes cycling here safer than in most other cities.
Cinema: cinemas have maintained their popularity over the years as a major source of evening entertainment. Postings, with a list of current offerings, appear in Thursday's newspapers and at various cafes around the city. Many films are shown in English.
Swimming: is popular and there are quite a few venues around the city. There’s a state-of-the-art facility called De Mirandabad, at De Mirandalaan 9, which includes not only indoor and outdoor pools, but also wave machines, slides and other amusements. The Marnixbad, located at Marnixplein 5 is a public, glass-enclosed pool.
The Zuiderbad, at Hobbemastraat 26, is housed in a lovely building originally constructed in 1911, and refurbished in 2001. There’s time set aside here for those who like to swim in the nude. Other public pools include the Floralparkbad, at Sneeuwbalweg 5, and the Sloterparkbad, located at Slotermeerlaan 2.
Inexpensive souvenirs are plentiful at the Waterlooplein Flea Market while the Albert Cuyp Market boasts more than 350 stalls offering up clothing, different types of foods, flowers, plants and textiles.
