On the western coast of the Netherlands is the city of Wassenaar, one of the more affluent suburbs of The Hague, just 10kms away. The most notable thing about Wassenaar is that it is the location of one of the Dutch royal residences. The Prince of Orange maintains a home here, as his family has for decades. The town itself is nice, but it doesn't offer visitors any particular Dutch attractions of note. At its heart is the historic town square, anchored by the beautiful Dorpskerk church and its lofty spires. For shopping, head to De Langstraat, the main downtown street which is lined with high-end shops, decent cafes and other useful businesses. This is a walking street and the lack of vehicles makes it perfect for a city stroll. Wassenaar is also blessed with many public parks and an excellent urban network of biking and walking paths. There is a beach on the edge of the city that is good for North Sea scenery, but the best accommodation around is found among the classy downtown hotels in Wassenaar.
