Just to the southwest of the Dutch city of Eindhoven is Veldhoven, a tidy modern suburb consisting of several traditional villages that have grown together to become a bedroom community for Eindhoven. High tech manufacturing and other industrial business is the main economic drive here, though most of the residents are commuters to Eindhoven. Eindhoven Airport lies right on the northern edge of Veldhoven, providing easy access to the suburb. Although few tourists venture out here to stay, there are a handful of practical hotels in Veldhoven catering to business travellers and local needs. The Gender River flows through the centre of town, giving a pleasant atmosphere to the medieval downtown core. Visitors will find a typical Dutch town square surrounded by useful shops and a few cafes at the heart of Veldhoven. There is a strong natural element to the town provided by the river and several large public parks such as Naamgeving Park, where people can walk on good paths, ride bikes or just relax on the lawns.
