Introduction to Vaals, Netherlands
In the extreme southeastern corner of the Netherlands is the town of Vaals, which borders both Belgium and Germany at a point known as the Drielandenpunt. The highest hill in the Netherlands is here, called Vaalserberg. Tourism is the primary source of income for the town's citizens, with visitors who come to stand at the highest point in the area and enjoy the sweeping views into three different countries mainly originating from neighbouring Germany and Belgium. In fact, more than a quarter of the residents of Vaals are German, giving this town a lively diversity not found in most Dutch destinations. While the town itself isn't that large, there are plenty of choices in terms of restaurants, bars and tourist-friendly shops. The nicer Vaals hotels are located right in the heart of town, which is the oldest district with the most atmosphere. The popular Aachener Gold Club is also just outside town, and numerous hiking trails can be found in the rolling hills of this southern part of the Netherlands. other spellings: vaalshotels, vals hotell, vaal hote, vaels hotes, waals hotle
