Introduction to The Hague - Scheveningen
Among the most popular districts of The Hague among tourists is Scheveningen, primarily due to its role as one of the Netherlands' primary seaside resorts. In addition to beach-goers, it attracts a large number kiteboarders, windsurfers and even nudists. Set back a short distance from the Haven (fishing harbour) and Dorp is the area known as Bad; this is the main tourist area and where a good selection of Scheveningen hotels are situated in addition to pubs, restaurants, cafes, bars, nightclubs and the best section of beach in the area. Additional attractions include the Holland Casino, which offers not only gaming but also live entertainment and full-service dining. A visit to the pier is a must for Scheveningen visitors; the current structure was built during the 1960s following the destruction of the original during WWII. There is also a good range of museums, such as the SeaLife Museum, which features live sea turtles, sharks and numerous fish species, as well as the Museum Beelden aan Zee, which offers a range of contemporary art exhibits and is centred on its selection of modern sculptures.
