Noordwijkerhout is a municipality and town located on the North Sea coastal dunes, an area inhabited since the prehistoric era, with excavations close by yielding ancient artefacts from pre-Roman settlements. The town lies just five kilometres from the coast, with swimming on the beaches possible in summer and hiking through the dunes and around Oosterduinse Lake possible most of the year. Set in the 'Dune and Bulb' region of the Netherlands, the town attracts many visitors to its Noordwijkerhout hotels during spring, when the fields full of flowers are in full bloom. Campsites popular with German and domestic tourists are found in the flower fields and along the dunes, and the town hold several historic churches and an ancient watermill. The White Church with its elegant spire, the 18th century coach house, Leeuwenhorst mansion and the attractive rows of 19th century workers' cottages give a glimpse of the heritage of this part of the Netherlands.
