Introduction to Leiden, Netherlands
Leiden is one of the most centrally located cities in all of The Netherlands. The Hague is very close by and the city is nestled in one of the most densely populated parts of the country. Leiden hotels run the full range from very small bed and breakfast outfits right through to high rise hotels with internationally recongisable brand names. Hotels in Leiden can be marvellously atmospheric, smaller places that are built in a gorgeous architectural style that has seen the entire city matched with the English university town of Oxford. The Old Rhine River winds slowly through the city centre and punt rides and other boating adventures are popular. Leiden hotels fill up quickly during university term times, with the University of Leiden drawing students and academics from all over the world since the 1500s. Outside of these times rooms are suddenly much more available, though some of the town's student energy is lost.
