Introduction to Hertogenbosch, Netherlands
The large Dutch city of Hertogenbosch, referred to nowadays as Den Bosch, has a population of approximately 144,000 and it is capital of the Netherlands' North-Brabant Province. Its southern edge lies against a protected nature reserve, and there are many parks and green areas as well as a historic city centre with ancient walls and heritage buildings. This medieval city is the largest such in the country, with most of its fortifications still seen. The magnificent 14th century Gothic cathedral and the Moriaan, the country's oldest brick building, dating from the 13th century, are here, too. In the picturesque market square, visitors will find the tourism centre set in the Moriaan, giving details of Hertogensbosch hotels and heritage sites. Also in the square are the 17th century Town Hall and many more attractive medieval heritage buildings. A short walk away at the edge of the Old City is the Citadel, home to a protective garrison for several hundreds of years. other spellings: hertogenboschhotels, hartogenbosh otel, hotellin hartoganbasch, hertogenbosch
