Groningen is a university town and the vast majority of residents here are students or academics. Groningen hotels serve the visitors to university conferences and around the beginning of each semester rooms can be very scarce indeed as families of students from around the world arrive to help settle their children into unversity life. Other hotels in Groningen cater to the administrative needs of the town which is also the capital of the region of the same name, Groningen. There is a good mix, then, of budget hotels in Groningen and more upmarket style accommodations. Of course, the university campus itself has its own accommodations and these too vary in style and price. Groningen is in the north of The Netherlands and it can be a very chilly place to be during the winter months. It enjoys a fairly temperate climate otherwise byt it can be quite wet, quite often. The town’s huge football stadium is used for inter-college games as well as soccer games that draw players and fans from all across Europe.
