Introduction to Groningen - City Centre
Dating back to the 3rd century AD, Groningen City has evolved to become one of the liveliest university cities in the Netherlands while still maintaining much of its traditional charm and culture. Despite its relatively small size, the city has grown in popularity among tourists, with Groningen city centre being voted as the best city centre in the Netherlands. Not only is the middle of town the main nightlife district and shopping area, it is also a historical and cultural hub, with some stunning architecture and buildings that are hundreds of years old. The Prins Claus Conservatorium is one of the most attractive of these historic buildings, and offers a variety of music recitals and performances to the general public. Shopping in the centre of the city is also an intriguingly local affair, with traditional markets such as the Great Market still in operation after hundreds of years. Staying overnight is well worth it, as a number of hotels in Groningen are actually converted medieval guest houses.other spellings: groningenhotel center, groningen otel citi, gloningen hotell center, grnengen hote city
