Introduction to Amsterdam - Airport
Amsterdam Airport, known the world over as Schiphol Airport, is the main Netherlands air hub, located nine kilometres to the southwest of the city. It’s the primary hub for the Dutch flag carrier KLM as well as Martinair, Amsterdam Airlines, Arkefly and Tranasavia, all low-cost Dutch airlines. Over 45 million passengers use Schiphol’s facilities annually and it’s also a major world cargo hub. The complex’s single large terminal building is split into three original sectors, with a fourth section having been added in 2007. The terminal is equipped with an extra-large retail shopping mall outside the customs area, as well as a small annex of the famous Rijksmuseum displaying artworks from classical and contemporary periods. Another attraction is the world’s only airport library, offering a wide selection of books, e-books and music downloads. A handful of Amsterdam Airport hotels are located on the complex, giving a good choice of accommodation for late arrivals, business travellers and passengers with connecting flights. Transport to Amsterdam includes rail, bus and taxi services. Visit our Amsterdam Travel Guide
