Getting Around

Getting Around Kathmandu
City buses: are available at Ratnapark (old bus park) and depart to various destinations across the city. There is also a Trolley Bus Service, which starts at Tripurshwor (near the Dashrath Stadium) and runs along the Arniko Highway and ends at Surya Vinayak (Bhaktapur).
Buses are usually so crowded that you’ll no doubt miss your stop because you won’t be able to see out of the window. Bus services operate from early morning until 20:00 or 21:00.
Auto rickshaws: or metered tempo is a black three-wheeler vehicle with fixed routes and rates. These tempos have two bench seats behind the driver and are usually blue or white. The white tempos are electric and are known as safa (clean) tempos. The fare is somewhat cheaper than metered taxis.
Hired mountain/ordinary bikes: are inexpensive to rent and a convenient way to travel around for budget travellers. They can be hired at Jhochhen, Rani Pokhari and Thamel.
